We fell in love with Wensleydale during a weekend stay at a lodge in Aysgarth. We had walked up to Bolton Castle and can vividly remember sitting on a bench eating sandwiches admiring the view over Penhill thinking “wouldn’t it be wonderful to live here”.
We started looking for a bolthole and stumbled across Croft House in 2010 and fell in love with the potential immediately. Even the bathroom didn’t put us off!
We finally completed in February 2011 and started renovations immediately. Within the first day, we had filled a skip and broken the only toilet! We quickly became accustomed to the public loos in Leyburn and the local tip.
It was our first experience of renovating a property but we were lucky to work with a great builder and had lots of help from family and friends. Below is a picture of my Mum removing plaster from the walls in the lounge. It was exciting uncovering the fireplace and also doorways to both adjoining properties. One of the best discoveries was the newspaper stuffed around the doorframes and old wallpaper; both have been cleaned up and are hanging in the blue bedroom.
